A Smart Form is similar to any other form in that it collects user supplied information allowing site owners to respond in the appropriate one to a user enquiry, comment, or submission. Where it differs is the technology behind the form that changes the fields based on previous responses. We have all seen forms that were large and time consuming or requested information that we were reluctant to give or irrelevant. These types of forms are rarely filled in and end up abandoned and a lost opportunity to the site owner.
A Smart Form reduces the information collected to the most relevant to the user. A Smart Form will also break down the collected data into several steps (if a large form) collecting contact information first and additional detailed submissions as the user proceeds. If the user abandons the form the site owner can follow up because they have the base contact details.
Form data can be submitted to email or to a database with access through an admin login. Email tends to be a less expensive integration but may be less reliable (email has no service guarantee). A Smart Form will break the information up into small pieces beginning with base contact details. This means that the site owner will receive multiple emails from the one form (depending on how far the user goes). The emails will all have the same subject and the part number will be appended to the subject e.g. Enquiry Form - J Smith - Part 1. This makes it easier to find and sort in your email.
A Smart Form works on a desktop, tablet, mobile device and is responsive. This ensures that the user can submit the form no matter the device. Only applicable fields will show depending on the previous information submitted.
A Smart Form is integrated into the existing page design so it appears native to the design. Error checking is built in to the form and there will usually be a Captcha and possibly honeypot fields (invisible in the browser visible to bots so they add content which then causes them to be discarded) to reduce SPAM. The form will provide feedback after a successful completion.
